Independence

Toddlers learn to care for themselves and their space: pouring, dressing, cleaning up, and making simple choices.

Language

Songs, stories, and rich conversation build vocabulary and the confidence to communicate needs and ideas.

Community

Gentle guidance helps children learn to share space, take turns, and form first friendships.

Why it matters

Why the toddler years matter so much.

Between 18 months and 3 years, children are in what Dr. Maria Montessori called a sensitive period for order, movement, and language. They absorb words, routines, and skills from their surroundings with remarkable ease.

A Montessori toddler room is built around this stage: low shelves, child-sized tools, and a calm, predictable routine let toddlers do real things for themselves. That early sense of 'I can do it' becomes the foundation for confidence and focus later on.

In the classroom

What your child will learn.

Practical life

Pouring, washing hands, wiping spills, and putting on shoes build coordination, concentration, and independence.

Language

Naming objects, songs, picture books, and conversation help toddlers grow vocabulary and express their needs.

Sensorial play

Shape puzzles, stacking, textures, and sounds help children sort and make sense of the world around them.

Movement

Walking, carrying, climbing, and outdoor play strengthen gross-motor skills and body awareness.

Fine motor

Grasping, threading, and transferring objects prepare little hands for drawing and, eventually, writing.

Grace & courtesy

Saying please and thank you, waiting a turn, and greeting friends lay the groundwork for kind social skills.

Questions

Common questions.

Does my child need to be potty trained?

No. We support potty training in partnership with families as part of the toddler program.

How do you help children adjust to school?

We keep a consistent, gentle routine and work closely with parents during the first weeks. Most toddlers settle in as they grow familiar with teachers and the classroom.
